Chidiya Ghar Review

LOL vs. ROFL :)

My Ratings: 4/5

LOL: Laughing Out Loud
ROFL: Rolling On the Floor Laughing

I am fond of SAB TV
from the beginning as the programs aired on it are really meant for families and full of fun and entertainment. Two months, a new comedy program- CHIDIYA GHAR was started on this channel and I am complete fan of it. I love the show, concept, actors, performances and the situational comedy. And yes, many times am confused after watching wonderful hilarious scenes that whether I have to LOL or ROFL so gave this title.

Concept

Unlike the name suggests, the serial is not about a zoo but a house named after the owner’s wife - Chidiya Narayan. This serial tries to show the animal traits in humans - restlessness like monkeys, appetites like elephants, swiftness of a horse, slowness of a donkey etc. This show showcases the journey from a four legged creature to a two legged one inculcating basics of human values like love, respect for others, patience and the true meaning of a family and togetherness is what makes us humans.

Manorama Yearbook 2012 Review

 Desi GOOGLE

My Ratings: 4.5/5

It was 1996 when I first got a copy of Manorama Yearbook from one of my classmate. I became a fan of this book since then. It is a one stop search for major GK questions. It was the time when there was no Wikipedia, Google or internet. Time has changed in almost 15years since then, but my loyalty towards this book is still the same. Though I have many online search engines always ready for me and Wikipedia with all the detailed information but still I love to flick through its pages to get information on many hot topics or topics that never came to my mind. Interestingly, I took help from Wikipedia while writing this review but that doesn’t make this book any inferior. I am writing this review considering the latest edition of this book- Manorama Yearbook 2012.

Simply said, it is an encyclopedia of current affairs published annually in Bengali, English, Hindi, Malayalam, and Tamil languages by Malayala Manorama Group of Kerala, India. It was first printed in 1959 in Malayalam and seven years later, the first English edition was published. It mainly covers information related to people, places, events and other major incidents happened during the past year.

Ek Deewana Tha Music Review

Feel the Music!!!

I have heard about this movie when it was in news regarding the music launch at Taj Mahal. There were no expectations attached to this album but was totally mesmerized by it. It has some uniqueness attached to it, seen rarely in Hindi Movies.

This movie is remake of Tamil movie Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa that was a great musical hit by A R Rahman. Rahman tries to replicate that magic and he is successful to an extent. The lyrics are penned by Javed Akhtar in very simple lyrics with mix of English phrases and even pure Hindi phrases.

The album has total twelve tracks, out of which three are instrumentals. Interestingly, there is no remix version of any song that has become a normal trend in music albums nowadays.

Science City Kolkata Review

 Have fun with Science

My Ratings: 5/5

I am residing in West Bengal for almost five years and been to Kolkata many times. But recently when I visited Kolkata with my mother, wife and brother; I decided to visit Science City just to pass few hours but was amazed to see the place and spent almost 5 hours without a single boring moment. So, I thought of discussing this amazing place with you all.

Location and Reachability

The science city is located at JBS Haldane Avenue at the crossing of EM Bypass and Park Circus Road (nearby landmark is Ruby Hospital). There are easily available public transport- taxis as well as buses- to this location.

The centre is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., every day of the year except Holi. You can get further information on its website www.sciencecitykolkata.org.in.

Nokia X7 Review

 Half-hearted attempt of Nokia

My ratings: 2/5

I am back with another mobile review, or I should say another Nokia mobile review. Just for record, this is my seventh mobile review, and fourth Nokia mobile review. I am using this mobile for last few
days, so thought of sharing my views on it.

Talking about basic features, it is having 8MP camera with dual LED flash , 8GB storage capacity using microSD card (expandable up to 32GB), GPS, Wi-Fi & 680MHz ARM 11 processor.

Design

At first sight, it looks attractive with large 4in screen and somewhat unique angular looks with four grills on ea ch corner . It seems as these grills house speakers in it but actually only bottom two have speakers; other two are just for symmetry purpose. Handset feels solid with 146gms weight and 11.9mm maximum thickness.

Apple iPod 2GB

The Most Affordable Apple

My ratings: 4/5

Apple- the fruit always fascinated me since my childhood. My early summers were spent in mango orchids and winters in guava orchids. Apple was a fruit that was always costlier than other fruits (in northern area). I have grown up but the fascination still remains- not to the fruit but to the gadget.

I was planning to have an Apple product since long time but the exorbitant pricing stopped me. I needed something portable for listening music while I am walking or am in gym. The need was to purchase a portable MP3 player and what is better than Apple iPod Shuffle 2GB - with its cute little size and Apple branding.

Looks & Design - It is a square aluminum case that comes in array of bright colors (silver, orange, blue, pink, and green). I choose blue color to match the color of my N8.

Nokia E5 Review

Cheapest Business Phone in India

My Rating- 3/5
The QWERTY keypads always fascinate me. I am using Motorola EX115 for almost a year and wanted to replace it so am in search of another mobile that can satisfy my needs. Last week I got first hand experience of Nokia E5. Actually my cousin is using it so I went deep in details about its performance. So I am sharing my views on it.

Design

It is a QWERTY phone without touchscreen, having dimensions of 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm and weighs 126 g. The body is mix of plastic and metal. The metallic battery cover looks cool and gives it a feel of expensive phones. It is having 2.36-inch display with resolution of 320 x 240 pixels and 256K colors.

The phone is having dedicated keys for home, mailing and flashlight. The ‘*’ and ‘#’ keys are oddly placed adjacent to ‘3’ & ‘6’.

Hardware/ Software

It is backed with 600MHz processor, 256MB of RAM and 250MB of internal storage that can be expanded to 32GB. It uses Symbian v9.3 operating system (OS) and the S60 v3.2 user interface (UI).

The Dirty Picture Music Review

Ishq Sufiyana... Ooh La La.....

 My ratings- 4/5

The Dirty Picture is a biopic movie based on southern actress ‘Silk Smitha’, directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. As Silk Smitha was a top actress in 1980s so the theme of the movie and music is around that period. I was waiting for the release of music of this movie since the time of first ‘Ooh La La’ teaser.

The movie has total six songs, all composed by the great Vishal-Shekar duo. The music will remind you of old times, though not a exact replica. All the songs are written by Rajat Aroraa. There are four original songs, one remix, and one female version.

Ooh La La
- The album opens with this oomph and energetic song. It is sung by the great disco musician Bappi Lahiri and the sweet singer Shreya Ghoshal. It is pictured on Vidya Balan and Naseeruddin Shah in a very bold and sexy way. The singer duo justified the video of the song. I have noticed that it is the first time that Shreya has sung this type of song but it’s just awesome. There is not much in the lyrics (except that Ooh La La), just repetitive phrases but anyhow it is the heart of this movie.

There is one dhol remix version of this song also, remixed by DJ A-Myth. The original song is much better than the remix.
