Sony VAIO SVE15115EN review

Beauty with brains

My ratings: 3.5/5

I used HCL laptop satisfactorily for 4 years and it was still working ok till I decided to purchase a new laptop. It was really a big task to choose a laptop among so many brands and their models. I started out with a basic requirement list.
Requirements

1.       Processor- Intel i3. Though i5 was in market but I decided against it as I use my laptop only for multimedia and browsing. Also, i5 is known for huge battery consumption.
2.       RAM- Minimum 4GB.
3.       Storage capacity- Minimum 500GB. I already have 1TB external hard drive and another netbook with 500GB capacity so storage was not much concern.
4.       Ports- Minimum 1 USB 3.0 port along with all the usual ports. Since my external hard disk was USB3.0 compatible so I want to optimize the performance.
5.       Looks and color- I wanted something that looks attractive and is in white color. The color choice was absurd but I am infatuated towards white colored gadgets.
6.       Screen size- 15inch. The portability was not of much priority as I already own a netbook of 11.6in. I wanted a big screen so as to enjoy the downloaded movies.
7.       Audio quality and loudness- It became a priority because I faced lots of problems in my last HCL laptop due to its very low sound quality.
8.       Pricing- With in 40k.

Windows 8 Review

Window for a new experience

My ratings: 4/4

New gadgets, new releases, new technologies, new updates and upgrades attract me so I immediately installed Windows 8 Pro once it was launched. I didn’t wait for reviews or feedbacks because I want to remain updated anyhow. It’s more than a week I am using the latest version of Windows. I would share only key points that would help you decide that whether you need this upgrade or not and how to use it more effectively.

Brief description

The new windows has two versions of screens- one is the old ‘desktop screen’ and other is tiled ‘metro screen’ . There is a hidden shortcut bar (shortcut to search, share, start, devices and settings) on left edge (named as ‘ Charms Bar ’) that is visible when mouse is pointed on top right corner. The ‘ settings’ option in charm bar can be used to control Wi-Fi, Volume, Power on/off, brightness, notifications and online keyboard . You will also find ‘Change PC Settings’ at the bottom in settings pane to control general settings. When you press the Start shortcut on this bar, you will be transferred to a totally new screen having live tiles that can be scrolled from left to right.

Sony VAIO VPCYB15AG

DEADLY looks with OK performance

My Ratings- 3/5
This is my first review of a computer. I am having laptop computer for my personal use but netbook fascinated me since the time of its release. There was not much use of it but my gadget freaky behavior was continuously forcing me to own a netbook. After much R&D, online market research and much more, I decided to purchase one.

Initial Dilemma

Before purchasing, I shortlisted few brands as per the price and specifications. I had to choose between Dell, HP and Acer with in the price tag of around Rs.17000. I left the choice of exact model on my impulse. When I went to a multibrand store, there was much more in display.

When I think of netbook, it was always a 10.1in screen without an optical drive. But while experiencing it for the first time in that store, I felt that 10.1in is very small for me (I am using 15in screen laptop). I used to wear spectacles with high power so it was bit difficult for me to concentrate on that tiny screen. So I rejected that screen size, the next available was 11.6in screen. There
